Wayne Weekly: “Seriously Christian…and Holding Fast
Written by Teddy on July 1, 2015
I was thinking this afternoon about a slogan that we use often here at Mars Hill, “seriously Christian and ministering life”. I paused and let the word “seriously” sink in.
We live in a culture that does not take much seriously anymore. We’ve been so disappointed by the false claims of misleading advertising, deceptive guarantees, political rhetoric and dishonesty, and promises that go nowhere, that we have become a skeptical people. The instability of the family and desinigration of the Biblical definition of marriage and family adds to uncertainty. Our universities teach “no absolutes”. People, even Christians, are being brainwashed in thinking we have no right to be dogmatic on anything. They fear being called intolerant, biased, narrow minded. God forbid if they are caught judging someone’s clear cut actions.
Being serious about our faith is not an option. We are to be committed followers of Jesus Christ and hold fast to the teachings of the Bible. God is clear about those who are lukewarm about their faith, He spits them out.
So Christian, how serious are you? Is it time for you to get serious in bearing the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) while exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22)?
Let’s be seriously Christian and let’s hold fast to God’s Word.
