Wayne Weekly “Life is a Beach”

Written by on July 7, 2021

Wow! Summertime trips to the beach, (or maybe the cooling shade of a walk in the woods).

Recently my family and I took a day trip to the village of Fair Haven, N.Y. We had breakfast at an old hardware store turned restaurant/gift shop. The wood plank floors showed years of wear and spoke of business in days gone by. Afterwards, we visited the beautiful state park there. Memory upon memory as I recall the many trips my family took to the park when we were kids. And, oh such wonderful memories of the many trips my wife and daughters took for a day of picnicking, swimming, and hiking. And then, those camping adventures. As some would say…”sweet”.

When taking in the fullness of God’s beauty, while making great memories, and having a “blast”, we become lost in the moment. Life seemingly became a beach!

But, we all really know better. Life usually is more like a rocky road, a daily path of detours, a trail often riddled with hazards. Our journey as a believer is one of challenges, both external and internal.

That’s not to say we can’t have “the peace of God that passes all understanding”. Our Christian walk can be engulfed in bunches of “rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice” moments. The Lord Jesus promised us “rest” in Him as we “learn” of Him. Though life on earth is not always a beach, it can for the Christian be a sandy oasis regardless of the terrain.

Someday we’ll step on God’s celestial shore line. Then we can shout out with zeal and thanksgiving, and say, “Life is…finally…a beach”.

But just think of stepping,
On shore and finding it Heaven,
of touching a hand and finding it God’s
Of breathing new air and finding it Celestial,
Of waking up in Glory and finding your Home.
