Wayne Weekly “Goodbye October…Welcome November”
Written by Wayne Taylor on November 2, 2022
What is your favorite month? The majority of those surveyed say that October is their favorite month of the year. You might think a spring month, or summer month, or maybe December because of Christmas, but no, it’s good ol’ October.
I think most of us appreciate October as a gateway month to the holiday season. We enjoy the fall foliage, the breezy days, the crisp mornings and the warmth of the sun on a not so warm day. October can be a beautiful month, or can be dismal, cold, and rainy in upstate NY. Regardless of those “not so nice Octobers”, we mostly remember the pleasant ones.
The problem is, October passes thirty-one days later, only to be “gobbled up” by November.
Ahh…November. Most trees have shed their colorful covering, nights become nippier if not downright cold. Days are brisk. Some crystal clear blue skies. The ground covered with the previous months shed leaves, much more crispy than before. But just ahead…Thanksgiving!
Yes, Thanksgiving. I love it. Not too much for the retail stores to go after…other than groceries for the biggest feast of the year. You can only sell so many porcelain platters and napkins sporting turkeys, pumpkins and Pilgrims. Thanksgiving truly brings with it a more relaxed atmosphere with family and friends. It hopefully looks upward with thankfulness. It introduces the Christmas holiday season.
Yes, a lot to be said about November. So…enjoy.
“Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” Acts 14:17
