Wayne Weekly “Care-a-ton for Careathon”

March is transition time weather-wise. We look hard for thaws, “spring-ish” days, and an introduction into a new season. Among those sought after days we trudge through winter storms, dark skies, and “when is spring coming…?” librettos!

Here at Mars Hill we are not only immersed in the hope for spring, but the planning and execution of our annual three day fundraiser that we call Careathon.

Careathon has been a vital part of our fundraising efforts since 1976 when Mars Hill Broadcasting Co., Inc. dissolved its stock and became a not-for-profit organization. The first Careathon, since the Winter Olympics were still fresh in the minds of many, was built on the theme of Olympic medals. If a listener chose to support WMHR (our only station at that time) at a certain monetary level, the donor would be called a Bronze Friend, a Silver friend, or a Gold friend. The whole idea seemed to catch on and that theme was carried forward for a number of annual Careathons.

We don’t have an “Olympic theme” anymore, but we still call our supporters “friends”. Of course, whether someone contributes to the cause or not, they’re still friends…and are appreciated.

Our best promotion has always been by word of mouth. Though ads are helpful, events render good promotion, church pulpits are can be productive, and mailings have their place… real people listener endorsements remain a powerful way to let people know that the Mars Hill Network exists, and connects listeners with the Bible 24/7! Listeners telling others how Christian radio from MHN has ministered to them and effectively helped them in their spiritual journeys, has been a promotional method unequalled. Why? Because people listen to people, and testimonials carry weight and impact others like no other.

Your financially helping this vital Christian radio ministry enables us to “keep on keeping on” with the mission of proclaiming God’s Word. The message of hope will continue to travel through the airwaves and by internet globally, because of those who recognize the worth of the Mars Hill Network and step up to the plate to help keep us healthy. We preach Christ! And the new life that can result in is its own springtime of new birth.
