Wayne Weekly “Beautiful Portal”
Written by Wayne Taylor on November 8, 2017
I paid a visit to my credit union the other day. The tellers seemed to be in an exceptionally joyful mood (maybe because it was early in the day and they were feeling refreshed, I don’t know). As I finished up my business at the window, I overheard the teller at the next window say how much she loved the month of November. My ears perked up. Yes, I thought, extending the “s’s”. My daughter and I were just talking about the same thing as we walked one of our dogs a few days before.
I don’t always join in on a stranger’s conversation, but I had to put my two cents worth in. I looked over at the teller and said, “I love November too. What a great month!” We exchanged brief thoughts about the crisp air, the uniqueness of the month as a transition between the beauty of fall and the coming winter. It’s just a good preparation month for the upcoming holiday season. It has its own personality.
We chatted for just a moment, and I left the teller with a smile on her face and a smile on mine. Next time I’m in doing business, I’ll remind her of our conversation and look for an opportunity to say a few words about God as the creator and crafter of every season.
November is special. I recall when I lived in Walworth, NY during my time managing our Webster station, WMHN. During those eight Novembers that we lived in the country, I very much enjoyed those November days. Our country kitchen has a sliding glass door out to a deck overlooking the fields and wooded areas including a ridge with spruce and pine trees. On those brisk mornings I would sit at the kitchen table and watch the natural landscape and enjoy being a part of the moment. And then came along Thanksgiving…! Enjoying simple experiences, taking it all in, that’s for me. Having others to share those moments with, even brings greater reward.
During this November, let’s try to grab a memory of the uniqueness of the month, and prepare ourselves for the coming winter wonderland and the marvel of Christmas.
Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. Psalm 96:11-12
