Wayne Weekly “B-r-r-r and Baby”
Written by Teddy on January 11, 2017
January means “b-r-r-r, it’s cold outside” to so many in our listening areas. That’s understandable! But January means much more as a reminder to all who cherish life. January is Sanctity of Human Life month, and specifically Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.
The good news is that there seems to be a genuine shift in the mindset on abortion by much of our country, and those born as “millennials” (demographers and researchers generally use the early 1980s as starting birth years and ending birth years ranging from the mid-1990s to early 2000s) seem to lean toward a pro-life position, at least on the abortion issue.
Now, with a new Washington administration that favors pro-life, it seems that the long fought battle over life may be in for a healthy degree of victory, at least for a season. I pray so.
Sadly to say, many evangelical churches find it difficult to discuss the sanctity of human life issue, and many just leave it out in the January cold during the month when so many others are bringing the topic to the forefront. I have sat in a number of church services over the years that barely acknowledge Sanctity of Human Life Sunday in their worship service. I have also been present when NOTHING at all has been said. I am talking about Bible teaching, evangelical churches here.
Perhaps they believe it’s too much of a “political” topic. If that’s the case, they need to realize that some in their congregations may be suffering by making the poor decision of terminating their unborn child. Regardless of why that decision was made, whether by fear, by coercion, for convenience, or any other reason, healing needs to be done. The message of forgiveness is needed. The pro-life message to prevent future devastation both to the baby and the mother…and sometimes even the father, needs to be lovingly preached from our pulpits.
January contains Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. Perhaps a careful and respectful personal visit with your pastor or elder board is in order encouraging them to recognize this special Sunday for the sake of ministry to the body of Christ.
January is more than “B-r-r-r, its cold outside”…its baby, its birthmother, its pure benevolence.
