Wayne Weekly “A Change in Color”

Wayne Weakly, that’s more fitting a title these days for my supposed weekly blog.
You recall the well know song that includes the words “summertime and the living is easy…”, well I have to take issue this year with those lyrics. This summer has not produced a lot of living easy time for me.
I’m sure you have had similar experiences in the past.
Between responsibilities at the network, the “put off until summer” outside jobs at home, and working through family challenges, my song to sing should be more in the tune of:
you load sixteen tons, what do you get?
another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don’t you call me ’cause i can’t go
I owe my soul to the company store
Well, not exactly, I’m blowing things out of proportion here. However, sometimes, no doubt like you, I feel that way in my worst moments. In the brevity of a fleeting thought, I find myself concurring with Solomon when he writes:
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind… Ecclesiastes 1:14
We’re all prone to become frustrated. Living in a fallen world, and being still inhabited with the “old man” sinful nature makes contentment sometimes a challenge. Whether its situation or financial, the Lord has told us to “learn to be content”!
“…for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:11-13
Or how about:
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
Ah, summertime, soon to be autumn…and a change in color.
