School Settlement Exposes Anti-Parent ‘Transgender’ Agenda

Written by on September 23, 2023

In August 2023, a California school district settled a lawsuit alleging that junior high school personnel pushed an 11-year-old girl into adopting a “transgender” identity at school and kept that identity a secret from her mother for several months.

Jessica Konen claimed that her daughter, Alicia, was invited to a so-called “Equality Club” at Buena Vista Middle School. The two teachers who led the club allegedly told Alicia she was bisexual and later advised her that she was transsexual. Initially, Alicia did not even understand what these terms meant. The Spreckels Union School District allegedly kept parents in the dark about their children’s “transgender” “identities” unless the children gave them permission to do otherwise. Alicia began wearing boys’ clothing, using a boy’s name, and using an intersex restroom at school; school personnel cautioned her against informing her mother about these developments. Chillingly, a Buena Vista teacher even gave Alicia advice on how to bind her breasts to make her body appear more masculine. Eventually, the school informed Konen about her daughter’s gender transition. The Daily Signal reported that Alicia returned to a female gender identity when she was in eighth grade; however, her relationship with her mother suffered because of this situation.

Konen and her daughter sued the Spreckels Union School District in state court in June 2022. The lawsuit claimed that the District had violated her substantive due process rights as a parent under the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The suit also set forth claims of negligence, civil conspiracy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. According to The Daily Signal, the lawsuit was settled for $100,000. The plaintiffs were represented by the Center for American Liberty and by attorney Harmeet Dhillon.

Konen commented, “‘[Schools] need to understand their place, and they need to stay in their place. And schools nowadays, they’re awful. So, I’m going to fight this fight and keep fighting this fight.’”

Cases like this one illustrate the destructiveness of “transgender” ideology in the lives of students. It is vitally important that New Yorkers push back against the imposition of this ideology upon vulnerable young people. If you have not already done so, please sign our petition today to stand up against the New York State Education Department’s “transgender” guidance document.
