(SRN NEWS) – Pennsylvania has the biggest Jewish population of any swing state, and any shift could have enormous implications in a state decided by narrow margins the past two presidential elections. Now polls are indicating that many Jews, who have always voted Democrat, are planning to cast their ballots for Donald Trump next month. His friendliness toward Israel during his first term is the primary reason. And many Jews say rising acts of anti-Semitism in the U.S. and anti-Israel protests sweeping across cities and college campuses have made them feel unsafe.

Religious freedom advocates and human rights activists are making renewed calls for an end to blasphemy laws around the globe. Some 79 countries continue to enforce blasphemy statutes. And in places such as Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, violation of these measures can result in a sentence of death. The vast majority of nations that punish blasphemy are mostly-Muslim and the targets of those laws are inevitably Christians. Critics say the laws are often used to settle petty scores between neighbors.

Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is doing all he can to convince Floridians to reject a ballot measure that would enshrine abortion in the state constitution. DeSantis says if abortion is added to the constitution, “That’s forever.  You really have zero chance of ever changing it.” The Florida ballot measure is one of 10 similar ones across the country, but the campaign over it is the most expensive so far, with ads costing about 160 million dollars. It would require the approval of 60 percent of voters to be adopted and would override the state law that bans abortion.

There’s a battle over transgenderism going on in the Mountain West college sports conference.  So far, four teams have forfeited women’s volleyball games against San Jose State because the school has men on its squad. Boise State, Southern Utah, Utah State and Wyoming have each opted not to play San Jose State and it looks like Nevada will forfeit a game this weekend. The Republican governors of Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming have made public statements in support of the cancellations, citing a need for fairness in women’s sports.
