(SRN NEW) – Some school officials in Oklahoma say they will not comply with a new order that requires that a copy of the Bible be placed in every classroom. A spokesman for the state education department says the mandate is not optional and that the superintendent has “a wide range of tools to deal with rogue districts” that do not comply. Meanwhile, other states, including neighboring Texas, are seeing lawmakers advance similar efforts to incorporate the Bible into public education, as it was throughout much of America’s history.
A federal appeals court has rejected Tennessee’s attempt to collect millions of dollars in family planning funds without complying with federal rules requiring clinics to provide abortion referrals. Last year, Tennessee’s attorney general filed a federal complaint seeking to overturn the Department of Health and Human Services’ decision to disqualify the state from receiving the money through Title Ten. In 2021, the Biden administration announced that clinics that accept family planning funds must offer information about abortion.
A Georgia Senate committee is starting a new push by Republicans in the state to ban males from participating in women’s sports. Senators heard testimony this week from five former college swimmers who are suing the NCAA and Georgia Tech over a man’s participation in the 2022 NCAA women’s championships. Two years ago, lawmakers approved a measure that lets the Georgia High School Association regulate transgender participation in sports. It does not cover collegiate athletics.
A federal appeals court has cleared the way for Florida to enforce a ban on so-called “gender-affirming care” for children. The decision blocks a lower court order against the ban while the matter is appealed. The law prohibits kids from being prescribed puberty blockers and hormonal treatments, even with their parents’ permission. At least 26 states have adopted laws restricting or banning puberty blockers and sex-change operations on minors, and most of those states are facing lawsuits from transgender activists.
