(SRN NEWS) – The families of two transgender teens in New Hampshire have filed a lawsuit challenging a new state law that bans them from playing on girls’ sports teams at their public high schools. The lawsuit says the two boys, who are living as girls, have been accepted by parents, peers, teammates and coaches. Legal battles over males playing against females in school sports are cropping up more frequently. A challenge to Connecticut’s policy allowing boys to play on girls teams is making its way through the court system.
Amnesty International says most of the suspects in a rampage last year against Christians in eastern Pakistan over alleged blasphemy are still at large and authorities have failed to deliver justice to the victims. The group says that the inadequate response by authorities has generated a climate of impunity. The attack, in which churches and homes of Christians were destroyed, erupted after Muslims alleged that they saw a local Christian and his friend desecrating pages from a Koran. Blasphemy accusations are common in Pakistan.
Religious organizations are taking Tim Walz to task for the restrictions he placed on them during the pandemic. Kamala Harris’ vice-presidential running mate is governor of Minnesota and he shut down the state in 2020 — including houses of worship. The Catholic League points out that “Walz issued an executive order limiting churches to 10 persons per service. But he allowed up to 50 persons to go to malls, shops, and other retailers.” Several lawsuits were spawned by the governor’s pandemic restrictions.
Now that she is the Democratic presidential standard bearer, Kamala Harris is clarifying her position on abortion. Harris says if she wins the White House, she will call on Congress to pass legislation guaranteeing abortion access in federal law. She is also promising to block any potential nationwide ban should one clear a future GOP-run Congress. Harris also supports a variety of measures to promote abortion across the country, including efforts to protect women who travel out of state to obtain abortions and limits on how states collect information on medical records.
