Planned Parenthood Desires More Public Dollar Profit

A recent report indicates that Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY)—a well-funded, politically powerful organization that gets paid to take the lives of many innocent unborn children—is worried.

Of course, PPGNY isn’t concerned about the babies it aborts on a daily basis or the women whose bodies and souls are scarred by the abortions it commits. Rather, PPGNY fears that the incoming Trump administration and its Republican allies in Congress might implement pro-life policies that would hurt PPGNY financially. In other words, the organization is worried about itself.

PPGNY’s financial concerns are not just related to the incoming Trump administration; the organization contends that it is already having financial difficulties. In recent months, PPGNY and its affiliates have shut down clinics in four different locations (Amsterdam, Cobleskill, Goshen, and Staten Island). This year, PPGNY and its allies unsuccessfully pushed for the state to increase its Medicaid reimbursement rate for abortion. According to Gothamist, PPGNY leadership plans to make a similar push in 2025 on the grounds that an increase is needed “to address rising medical expenses, including the cost of wages and supplies [which] skyrocketed after COVID-19.”

PPGNY is also preparing ahead of time for the potential fiscal impact of the Trump administration’s policies by “strategizing to secure added support from the state government and donors.” Apparently, when PPGNY and its cohorts lost $14.2 million in federal funding due to the first Trump administration’s Protect Life Rule, the Cuomo administration created a contingency fund that replaced the federal funds that were withheld. PPGNY is worried that the second Trump administration might re-institute the same rule; if it does, PPGNY says that it will look to New York state government to replace the federal funds PPGNY does not receive.

In other words, Planned Parenthood—which claims to be in financial trouble—wants more of your money.

Jason McGuire, Executive Director of New York Families Foundation, commented: “A dose of reality is needed here. First, no affiliate of Planned Parenthood—an organization that turned a $204.7 million nationwide surplus in 2021-2022—has any business whining about its financial troubles. PPGNY’s tone-deaf handwringing over costs that ‘skyrocketed’ after COVID-19 ignores the reality that New York families with far fewer resources than Planned Parenthood have had to cope with skyrocketing costs of their own since the pandemic. Second, it is not the job of our state government to ensure that Planned Parenthood’s coffers remain filled.”

McGuire continued, “If Planned Parenthood tries to hit up the State Legislature for more money next year, the correct answer is ‘no.’ In fact, no New Yorker’s tax dollars should be directed to Planned Parenthood or any other abortion provider in the first place.”
