Musings About MHR Canada: Excerpt #18

A special partner in Ministry
As a tribute to their kindness to Mars Hill Radio Canada, it is a pleasure to provide a bit of a history as to our association with the church. Unfortunately, I have almost no contact with the pastoral team and trustees, except for a few visits with the pastors, past and present, and my almost yearly letter of appreciation to the church leadership. It’s with the secretarial staff that I enjoy most of my communication. But let me start back a bit.
In 1975, the Lord moved our family to Kingston where we bought a new house on Danbury Road. This street ran east to west. If you went east, (that’s where the wise men came from) the road ran dead on an empty lot – an empty space between Danbury Road and Progress Avenue. We watched the construction of a church on that lot, never knowing then that it would play a pivotal part in helping us (MHR Canada) in a number of ways. Now, for more than 25 years, Bay Park has been the postal address for Mars Hill Radio Canada: 775 Progress Avenue, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, K7R 1Z5. I’ve moved, but they haven’t and thankfully, I’m not much further away than before.
It was there that we held our hymn sings. There we had a little curtained off spot in an upper Sunday school area where recordings were made that could be sent to the station in Syracuse. We even had a phone line and fax machine to receive announcements for the Community Bulletin Board that we subsequently recorded at the Cape Vincent station. Most of those functions are in the past now, but our appreciation of their generosity continues.
How helpful and dedicated are they? During the early months of the Covid pandemic lock-down requirements, Bay Park staff had all of the mail that was addressed to 775 Progress Avenue diverted to a trustee’s home. Trish, an office administrator, picked up the mail earmarked for MHR Canada and delivered it directly to my home. What kindness!
Presently both Trish and Laura continually sort out our mail and slip it into our mail folder at the church allowing me to pick it up. These two ladies are the continuation of a wonderful line of office staff that have served us; for which I and the Canadian board are extremely grateful.
Where would we, and also the whole Mars Hill Radio Network be without ministry partners like the churches and businesses who have dedicated people, like I’ve just alluded to, that find pleasure in serving Christ with us? I thank the Lord for them.
