Christians, what are your plans for Tuesday, November 5? At New York Families Foundation, we hope you will make certain to go to the polls and vote.[1]

Here in New York, this year’s elections include the presidential election, a U.S. Senate election, and elections to the U.S. House of Representatives, the State Senate, the State Assembly, and various county and local offices. Also, Proposal One—an anti-life, anti-religious freedom amendment to the New York State Constitution—is being presented for the voters’ approval or disapproval and will appear on the back of each voter’s ballot.

A recent study shows that many American Christians do not intend to vote this year. In an effort to counter this trend, New York Families has compiled a list of our top five reasons that all eligible Christians should vote in 2024.

By voting, believers can affect election outcomes. In 2022, four New York congressional races were decided by margins of less than 2%. In 2020, an Iowa congressional race was even closer; Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) defeated her opponent by only six votes. Every vote really does make a difference.

Voting is an opportunity for Christians to be good stewards (see Matthew 25) of the civic responsibilities with which the Lord has entrusted us, keeping in mind that we must ultimately give an account of all our doings to Him (see Romans 14:12).

By voting, believers help to select good leaders and avoid unrighteous ones. In so doing, Christians live out selfless love and concern for the well-being of our neighbors, our communities, our state, and our nation. Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.”

Your vote will help New York Families Foundation in our effort to fight off Proposal One. If approved, Proposal One would amend the New York State Constitution to prohibit discrimination based on “gender identity,” “reproductive autonomy,” and other problematic categories. Proposal One is NOT about protecting New Yorkers against unfairness. It is about using our state constitution to promote abortion and transgenderism, and it would pave the way to dangerous, extreme court decisions.

By voting, Christians help to preserve our American heritage of freedom for our children, our grandchildren, and future generations. In his first inaugural address as governor of California, Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction.”

Friends, please don’t miss your chance to vote this year.
