Wayne Weekly “Turning the Corner and Into the Streets of Bethlehem”

Whew. Thanksgiving flew by us like a turkey in November! Yes, turkeys do fly!
Thanksgiving these days is dwarfed by Black Friday and its un-relentless push to get people away from the table and into their stores. The holiday feast doesn’t give me indigestion, it’s the retail frenzy that we’re almost forced to swallow!
To be honest, I have succumbed to Black Friday at times. And really, it’s not wrong to look for a deal on the perfect gift. Actually you can have a good deal of fun looking for good deals. I’m not fond, however, of standing in a long line, especially if it’s laced with some of the more anxious ultra-Black Friday bargain hunters who have been shopping for door buster specials since 5 AM. I have to admit that there are some on-sale items worth the early morning adventure.
This year I waited till Saturday morning. It was much more digestible.
So just when I thought the worst was over, ahhh…Cyber Monday is here. I am not sure what’s worse being “in line” or being “on line”!
All put aside, we’re living in a day when it takes an effort to slow down to just simply be thankful during the Thanksgiving week.
Now…
Christmas is around the corner and if we try, and try real hard, the corners we turn will not all be in the mall square but onto the streets of Bethlehem.
“But thou, Bethlehem Eph’rathah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel, whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2
