Wayne Weekly “Have a Thankful Thank-S-giving”
Written by Teddy on November 23, 2015
Though I rejoice in the Christmas season, there is just something special about Thanksgiving. I find that even more so as I move up in years. I think as we grow older, we appreciate the simple more relational holidays that focus on being with loved ones, rather than hustle and bustle.
In church this past Sunday our Pastor spoke on “being thankful”. He quoted Joni Eareckson Tada when she said;
“Giving thanks is not a matter of feeling thankful, it’s a matter of obedience.”
Those simple words spoke to me. I don’t always feel thankful. I sometimes try to conjure up a feeling of thankfulness, and sometimes I am successful, but not always. I just have to tell the Lord, “God I am thankful, I really am, but I am not feeling it at the moment.”
If I seriously reflect, as I am at the moment I am writing this, I can honestly tell you…I am thankful and I feel thankful. When I think about the blessing of family, freedom, and fellowship with my God, it is easier to experience thankfulness.
This is the “S” advice I give to Wayne…I hope he’s listening:
- Stop thinking about me.
- Stay away from everyday distractions for a moment or two.
- Start counting your blessings.
- Saturate your heart with thankful thoughts.
- Speak your heart in praise to God.
Have a thankful Thanksgiving this year!
