(SRN NEWS) – Attorneys for the state of Florida have told a federal appeals court that a lower-court judge was wrong to block a law that bans the use of drugs to help children live as the opposite sex.  Attorneys presented oral arguments before the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Miami.  Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is already reviewing a similar ban in Tennessee.  Florida’s law, which was reinstated temporarily by an appeals court panel, prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from being prescribed puberty blockers and hormonal treatments.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court is considering whether a legislative committee’s rejection of an agency rule that would ban the practice of “conversion therapy” for gay people was unconstitutional. The challenge comes amid the national battle over the LGBT agenda.  It is also part of a broader effort by the Democratic governor, who has vetoed numerous Republican bills, to frustrate the efforts of the GOP-controlled Legislature. The Wisconsin court, controlled 4-to-3 by liberal justices, is expected to issue a ruling in the coming months.

Lawmakers in the Virginia House of Delegates have passed resolutions enshrining abortion and gay marriage in a critical step for Democrats hoping to amend the state’s constitution next year.  The Democratic-lead House advanced the proposed constitutional amendments while sister resolutions work their way through the state Senate. Proposed constitutional amendments are not subject to vetoes by the governor, but they must be twice passed in at least two years. After that, the public will render its decision by referendum on the issues.

The Montana House has endorsed a ban on men using womens’ restrooms in public buildings.  The measure now heads to the GOP-controlled state Senate.  A dozen other states have variations of bathroom bans on the books, many directed at schools.  Even more states, including Montana, have passed laws to keep boys from playing on girls’ sports teams and bar sex-change operations on children.  Montana State Representative Zooey Zephyr, who is a man living as a woman, sought to rally colleagues against the bill.
