Wayne Weekly “April Fools…All Year Long”
Written by Wayne Taylor on April 4, 2022
We just came out of another April Fool’s day. I’m not sure if the title means someone who is tricked is a fool or if it refers to the act of pulling the wool over someone’s eyes. Regardless, we visit this date each year.
I don’t know about you, but I thought I heard much less about April Fool’s day than I can recall in recent history. It would make sense to assume that people are increasingly burdened by what’s going on in our world, resulting in a diminishing spirit of joking around.
God’s Word has much to say about being foolish. The Scriptures even refer to some people as “fools”. What comes to mind is the verse found in Psalm 14:1:
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.”
God’s Word tell us in Psalm 19:1-3 that God’s existence is made evident by His creation:
“The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard.”
Scripture also tells us in Romans 1:
“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.”
We live in an age where as believers we are often scoffed at. We’re often considered narrow minded, judgmental, and full of hate. That’s the price we may pay for clinging to the Scriptures as our authority.
Those who condemn us as believers often will not listen to the hope that lies in us, much less listen to God’s language found in the heavens. Proverbs 18:2 states:
“A fool does not delight in understanding, But only in revealing his own mind.”
Though God wills that “none should perish, but all come to repentance”, as Christians we will encounter those whom God calls, “fools”. April fools…all year round.
