Wayne Weekly “I Pray for You Every Morning”

Written by on May 17, 2021

I have a routine. I walk my dog in the morning and after work. I round the corner and walk Dazy down three blocks and back home.

I have grown familiar with each yard, each house, each dog, and in some cases, the person or persons who live at some of those homes. Tracing my dog walk steps has become a part of my morning prayer roster. I pray for each family that lives in each home I pass by.

I generally pray for the Lord to draw them to the cross for salvation. I pray each one would surrender to the Lord. I also pray that God would bless them with His grace.

Over the past year I have met a number of people who call the house I pass by their home. I have engaged in light conversation, but make a point to say, “I pray for you every morning”. I get various reactions. Some look at me a bit crooked, others thank me, and others ask me, “why”? I be sure to tell them that I pray that God would bless them and draw them close to Himself. I want to assure them it is not because they are some horrendous sinner and I’m on a mission to rid the neighborhood of them.

I have found out much about these special people God has put in my life through brief exchanges. One recently lost her life-long husband, another lost their long time family dog (they shed tears over “Goliath’s” unexpected death). I’ve learned of one losing his job, and another the joy her grandparents bring during Easter Sunday dinners. One person suffers from autism, and several are one parent families. I pray for teen children of the parents I have come to know, newcomers on a block, and sometimes health issues.

This knowledge gives me different reasons to pray for each individual or the entire family. But most of all, I pray for their salvation. A few on my walk are indeed believers, or profess to be, but most, I am guessing, have never surrendered to Jesus as Lord and Savior.

I will continue building bridges on my daily journey and planting seeds as God opens doors to homes and hearts alike. And just perhaps, the time will come when I can share the gospel. I am confident that time is “just around the corner”.

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:  that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19
