Wayne Weekly “Frosty the…Omen”

The word “omen” has gotten a bad wrap over the years, due primarily to a series of Hollywood movies with an evil theme. The dictionary gives this definition:

An occurrence or phenomenon believed to portend (foreshadow) a future event.

Simply put, an omen can be a good omen, like seeing a Robin, an omen that spring is here, or predict something bad is on the horizon.

This morning when I took our dog for her early morning walk, I opened the door to a frosty yard. The temperature had dipped below freezing where I live, I think for the first time this fall. The street lights reflected off the fine white layer of frozen dew, and my dog paused for a moment before sniffing the ground.

Frosty the Omen had come to town.

With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away I expected to see our first frost any time. The frost told me, “stay tuned…winter is on its way, even at your doorstep”.

God’s Word gives us “signs” that Jesus is on His way to gather his people to be with Him, so as to speak. We see much decadence these days, perhaps a forerunner of what’s to come in the near future. Though many signs or “omens” were given by Jesus to the Jewish nation, many signs of His return are universal. They apply to believers…our redemption draweth nigh!

The Lord, told His followers that no one knows for sure what day and hour when He would return, not even the angels in Heaven, “only the Father knows”, Jesus said. Now that Jesus is in Heaven with His Father, He is no longer limited, by divine command, as He was on earth.  I am sure the Lord now knows the time of return, and is patiently waiting for the moment when He will stand up and leave His throne.

With the frost, the promise of winter comes. You may welcome it, or maybe not so much. It’s an omen. With the divine prophetic signs, His coming is sure…and I believe as Christians, we’ll all welcome that!
