Wayne Weekly “Malone Revisited”

A call came into my office just yesterday from a faithful WMHQ Malone, NY listener. Dorothy had called maybe 6 months ago asking how she could help get the word out that Mars Hill is on the air with Christian programming. Dorothy told me that she simply cherishes MHN for the great Bible teaching and inspirational music she hears each day. Since she moved to Malone, after the passing into glory of her pastor-husband, she gleans much comfort and strength from the broadcast.
I have to say I was somewhat embarrassed as I scurried for words in explaining my oversight in following through with some of the ideas we talked about during that conversation. I became upset with myself for the oversight, but assured Dorothy that I would work on creating a forum for interested listeners to come together and share thoughts on how better to promote 90.1 FM in the Malone-Massena area.
WMHQ came about when a few Christians approached Mars Hill Broadcasting asking if we might improve and expand our broadcast into that part of the state. Already Mars Hill was heard locally via a low power translator. Bryan Eggleston, president of the newly formed Adirondack Gospel Connection group, brought the lofty request to the Mars Hill Network board of directors.
That request did not fall on deaf ears. The Mars Hill Network began to work diligently with Bryan and his group. Months later, by God’s goodness, The Mars Hill Broadcasting Company was granted a full power broadcast license for Malone. On December 3, 2003, WMHQ began broadcasting, being the forth full power station in the Mars Hill family of stations.
Now it’s time to revisit WMHQ. Thanks to Dorothy’s vision, Mars Hill will be working to pull together listeners of WMHQ and strategically laying out plans to freshly promote 90.1 in the region.
It’s listeners like Dorothy, listeners who love the ministry of Mars Hill, that enable Christian radio from MHN to continue its mission of broadcasting the gospel of Christ.
