Wayne Weekly “Liquid on Mars”

Written by on July 26, 2018

Just yesterday I read another “breaking” news article on a news network web site. Some of these “breaking” news stories need to be broken before they are broken!

The one news brief I read yesterday, however, was interesting. It reported that “water” may have been found below the surface near one of the poles on the “red planet”. This has seemingly caused a flurry in the alien life on other planets crowd.

I remember as a kid, before the Mercury space program was even in place, sleeping out “under the stars” on warm summer nights. Gazing up into the heavens I vividly recall wondering about space travel, and particularly about visiting other planets and wondering if life existed in our solar system. I really didn’t think too much beyond our solar system, back then our own system of moons and planets, and sometimes the Milky Way galaxy, was enough to contemplate and wonder about.

I remember not only pondering about space, and planets and the moon, and rocket ships, but I also thought about God. I wasn’t on my cell phone or Gameboy or Sega Genesis portable playing video games, I was imagining and wondering and contemplating. Healthy imagination is a wonderful thing, and perhaps is at a premium these days.

God’s Word clearly tells us that the Lord Jesus was the creator (of course we must think “trinity”).

“All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing has come into being that has come into being.”                                                                                                                 John 1:3

The Word also tells us that:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.”                                                                                                     Psalm 19:1-3

During those magic outdoor overnights, amidst the thoughts of space travel and Martians, God spoke to me about His majesty. I heard His visual voice from the heavens. At the time little did I know that He was revealing Himself to earth dwellers, like me.

So, whatever water may be found under the surface of Mars it was put there by God in His design. However that plays out to those who put their hope in alien life somewhere, I don’t know. All I know is that while tucked in my sleeping bag, viewing the panoramic picture of the heavens, I well learned:

“He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.”     Colossians 1:17
