Wayne Weekly “I Am Unique”…Just Like Everyone Else

Written by on June 7, 2017

Recently I heard of a bumper sticker that reads, “I am Unique”…just like everyone else. That sums it up nicely, many think they are unique, an individual, exclusive, distinctive, and the like. Many want to be known for this uniqueness. It gives a sense of importance.

When I was growing up that self-description was almost as fashionable as it is today. We liked to be labeled as a person “doing our own thing”. Well we did do our own thing…with thousands of others who also did “my thing”. We liked being called a rebel, against the establishment, against the norm.

The truth is that all of our natures have a whole lot in common. Yes, we have different interests and goals, but are joined by throngs who desire the same ideology. We’re just not that “unique”.

Now, if you put uniqueness in the context of who God says we are, that’s another story. We’re unique in the sense that we are our own person. No one is me, no one is you. God made us individuals, millions and billions throughout time, all individual people, all unique, yet all created in His image as humans with our own characteristics, our own make up. God’s paint box has zillions of colors and shades, His box of Legos contain gazillions of shapes and sizes. We’re like flakes of snow, no two alike.

That makes you and me special. We really are unique…but also uniquely the same…as God’s “crown of creation”.
